Clinical teaching of Orthoptics

Aim

To continue and improve our education commitments for undergraduate orthoptic students and those of other professions.

To promote good links with Liverpool University and undertake clinical tutoring sessions.

To promote good links with Bangor University (via NEWI) and increase involvement of undergraduate and graduate teaching sessions for nurses.

To continue sessions for Health Visitors, School Nurses etc involved in assessing vision, squint and ocular motility.



Methodology

Act promptly to any relevant requests made for teaching sessions.

Contact educational providers to timetable in teaching sessions which occur annually.

Keep all universities up to date upon what we can offer.

Ensure all clinical tutors are up to date with knowledge of relevant courses.



Results

Clinical tutors are actively keeping abreast of new developments via contact with the universities.

Students learn via our theoretical knowledge and clinical experience, they are better equipped for the workplace.



Evaluation

The students give feedback as to how the placement/tutorial was received.

Reflection

Being actively involved, especially involved in teaching of undergraduate orthoptic students makes us question our clinical practice and ensure all knowledge is current.

Involvement with the universities aids recruitment.
